Tinsel Town Live Interview with Maggie Lamond Simone https://smiletime.com/channel/mizmeliz #onSmiletime

Meet Maggie Lamond Simone

Facebook Live: Tuesday, November 29, 2016 6:00 PM Pacific Time

Mental health awareness, shame, stigma…who wants to talk about that? Well, I do. Maggie does. And we should be talking about it because people are dying in our country. Our kids are dying and they need our help.

“I’d like to talk about the silence and stigma surrounding mental health issues, illustrated on an adult level in my book, “Body Punishment,” and on a younger level by my 15-year-old daughter, who has OCD and severe anxiety and talks to younger kids about it.” Says Maggie Lamond Simone.

We will also talk about what is next for Simone. Maggie is already beginning her next project, which will be a collection of essays written by teens with mental health issues for their peers.

Maggie Lamond Simone is an award-winning columnist and author. With two titles already to her name, her third book, Body Punishment: OCD, Addiction and Finding the Courage to Heal (Central Recovery Press) was released in April 2015. It traces Simone’s journey struggling with obsessive-compulsive disorder, anxiety, and depression. Her writing has been featured in multiple publications and collections, including Cosmopolitan Magazine, The Zen of Midlife Mothering(2013), Not Your Mother’s Book on Do-It-Yourselfers (2013), P.S. What I Didn’t Say (2009), and Chicken Soup for the Soul: My Resolution (2008).  Simone has been a guest on NPR and is a regular blog columnist for the Huffington Post. An an adjunct professor in the department of communications at SUNY Oswego and Onondaga Community College in Syracuse, she lives in Central New York with her husband and two children.
For as long as she can recall, Maggie Lamond Simone has been plagued by self-loathing and urges to harm herself physically while emotionally sabotaging her life. In Body Punishment:  OCD, Addiction and Finding the Courage to Heal (Central Recovery Press, April 2015), she reveals it all. The obsessive thoughts that drove her to cut, starve, pick, drink, pluck, purge, and otherwise hurt herself. The profound shame, the utter despair and the confusion over her own inner workings that prevented her from establishing stable, long-term goals and healthy relationships.  Through this poignant story of her painful, eye-opening journey she explores the issues of substance abuse, anxiety, and depression that commonly occur with OCD, all in an effort to further the dialogue around mental illness and eliminate the shame and help others find a way forward toward healing.

Black Belt Selling Tinsel Town Interview Featuring Anna Scheller @SchellerAnna

Posted on April 18th, 2016 by & filed under Everything Miz Meliz, See the Video on YouTube, Tinsel Town Live 2016, Workshops and Webinars

Did you know that when my kids were small, I practiced Karate? Yep – sparring, grappling, the whole thing. I was even a sempei (assistant instructor!) I had a pretty good round house kick, too! Hi-yah!

I also have a little bit of a background in sales. I was a retail sales manager and I studied business and marketing in college. When I worked as an executive administrative assistant at a large bank, I attended sales management training. Interesting. You are wondering what does that have to do with Karate, Miz Meliz?

Well, I never thought the two would come together until I met my new friend, Anna Scheller. Anna is an author, speaker, trainer, and coach. She is the host of Sales Mastery on the Amazing Women of Power radio show. She just published a new book and is launching a new training program. Guess what the principles of self development and entrepreneurship Anna is gifted in. Go on, guess!

Everyone who signs up for Anna’s newsletter between now and Friday, April 29, 2016 will have a chance for a free seat in the program.

If you know Anna, you might not have guessed that she has a Black Belt in Taekwondo. Having a background in sales training, she naturally combines the two in her new program, Black Belt Selling. (I know, I gave it away in the title of this blog post! But you will be glad I did, because I am willing to bet you will remember that and want to Google Black Belt Selling!)

Don’t miss this episode of Tinsel Town Tonight! Especially if you have an interest in martial arts and entrepreneurship or sales mastery. I will interview Anna live on Tuesday, April 19, 2016  at 6:00 PM, Pacific Time.

Discipline, Confidence, Strength, and Leadership. I believe these are tools that we all should know. . .

That’s what this is about, baby!

Anna Scheller

Anna enjoys reading, spending time with her family, and practicing taekwondo.

“I am passionate about helping people achieve their dreams by growing their income through sales training and business coaching.”

In May 2016, Anna will be leading a four week program called Black Belt Selling. In this program, she helps people develop the qualities they need to push through the blocks that keep them from closing more sales.

Everyone who signs up for Anna’s newsletter between now and Friday, April 29, 2016 will have a chance for a free seat in the program.

Have you ever thought the things you are passionate about, the hobbies, sports, or interests, would help you in life and in business?

If you have a story like this, please share it. I know having a little experience with Karate sure helped me when I was raising my three sons. A lot of the confidence I built in those classes is still with me today. It was an amazing experience for me.

Melis

Tinsel Town Tonight with Martha Brettschneider @marthabrett @tenminitt Calm is the New Happy

Posted on March 18th, 2016 by & filed under Books, Everything Miz Meliz, Mindfulness Guidance and Coaching, Tinsel Town Live 2016

Martha Brettshneider, How Does Your Garden Grow?

“In a world that’s constantly pushing us to move on to the next best thing, it’s challenging to fully appreciate the present. I am an author, blogger, award-winning photographer, and cancer survivor with a passion for inspiring mindful living.” ~Martha Brettschneider
emerging from deep mud

Martha inspires us to push beyond the comfort zone

Martha Brettschneider is a writer, blogger, photographer, and gardener. In 2009, she was diagnosed with breast cancer, which reoriented her perception of body, mind, and spirit. She transformed from being a fast-paced business woman to being a meditation-touting creative finally at peace with the world. She since has become a Fairfax, Virginia certified Master Gardener and an award-winning Project365 photographer.

Martha is a former international economist.  She is also a mom who understands the challenge of being fully present. I am looking forward to interviewing her on a special episode of Tinsel Town and find out about her and her new book.

Show Notes

In Blooming into Mindfulness: How the Universe Used a Garden, Cancer, and Carpools to Teach Me That Calm Is the New Happy, Martha shares her own personal transformation story.
“I wrote this book because I realized that my ego was holding my happiness hostage and I knew I wasn’t alone. Most of us don’t realize that we are the source of our own suffering and can turn that around!” ~Martha Brettschneider

Martha is most passionate about her garden. She says, “My garden was my first mindfulness mentor long before I had ever heard the term, so digging in the dirt always makes me happy. Garden photography is another passion that arose as part of my mindfulness practice, as it forces us to notice tiny details and beauty right in your own backyard. Though I was forced into it to reduce my risk of breast cancer recurrence, exercise has become an integral part of my life. My fitness girlfriends–both at boot camp and on the running trail–are my soul sisters.
We will discuss her approach to work, family, and purpose, and ways that her book, Blooming into Mindfulness, provides motivation for those looking to find and/or renew their own sense of mindfulness.
Some main points about mindfulness that we will touch on in the interview may include:
  • Taking control away from the ego – the transformational power of mindfulness and the freedom that comes with it
  • Her personal transformation – how she completely shifted her focus from the power economist to master gardener/mindfulness thought leader
  • Finding the balance between your inner thoughts and knowing when not to trust them
  • The vital importance of meditation as a form of physical fitness for the brain
  • The mastectomy experience, and the inferiority complex that can come with breast cancer
  • Gardening and the surprising therapeutic benefits of laboring in the soil and reaping visual delights
  • Creative outlets that arise from exploring mindfulness, such as her award-winning photography and the 365Project
  • The actual efficiency of mindfulness as a way of life – how procrastination can be a thing of the past

Blooming into Mindfulness can be purchased from Amazon and through other major and independent booksellers nationwide.
Thank you to Ana Lydia Monaco and Smith Publicity, Inc. for the opportunity to interview Ms. Brettschneider. I received a copy of Martha Brettschneider’s book for the purpose of review. I was not compensated for the interview, blog post, or review. See my Disclosure for details on why I do posts like this.

Show Notes

I asked Suzette about what she likes to do when she isn’t blogging.

We love to watch movies. After my children left home, and now empty-nesters, my husband and I rounded up our other empty-nesting friends and formed a Friday Night Film Group. Practically every Friday night, eight of us, four couples, meet at our local theater and watch the latest releases. We then have dinner together to talk about our film selection. We are sort of Open Table Film Critics!”

When I inquired about her favorite project, she told me about her new book…

“I am about to publish my first book, “101 Movies To See Before You Grow Up” I think it would be good to tell people about how this book came about, and most importantly how I came up with this list!

I gave 101 Movies to See Before You Grow Up a Five Star Review!

It is a great list and I love the way the book is put together. It is colorful and the illustrations depicting the iconic characters of each movie are delightful. The information is displayed in an easy to read and understand format, being that the book is for young people. However, I found it informative and entertaining to read. Suzette gives a very consistent and thorough listing of what I would call my all time favorite films. They are certainly the ones that I grew up seeing and hope to see again and again. ~Melissa Reyes

When I asked Suzette what she is most passionate about, she said, “Entertainment, how media affects children and our family values, travel, college, and my book, of course!”

I wondered where she and her friends like to hang out. “We usually head to the Grove and to Santa Monica. We love to walk around the promenade in Santa Monica, and try to eat at a small Italian restaurant on Montana called Locanda Portofino. It’s a tiny place that my boss/friend Sharon Waxman introduced me to.”

We will talk about these things and more on Ten Minutes in Tinsel Town!
