Her Voice is Always on My Mind “Listen to Your Mother” @LTYMshow #LTYM

Her voice is always on my mind.

Softly encouraging, pushing, nudging, lovingly.

Lovingly – now that I myself am a mother and I hear the love between the lines.

Her distinct voice often did not sound loving, as I recall. Yet, now that is all I hear.

The best thing about listening to your mother is knowing that she loves you.

My mother loved me.

She would actually say the words…

“Listen to your mother.”

She also promised that I would hear her voice long after she was gone.

She came through on that promise.

ltym memeI hear her voice when I speak to my kids.

I hear her now.

“Listen to your mother” has many meanings to me.

Motherhood = Love.

Hear love in my voice.

Hear love in your heart.

Advice. Advise.

Encourage. Nudge.

Love.

When I met Carolyn West of This Talk Ain’t Cheap, the leader of So Cal Lady Bloggers, she listened to me. She listened to my stories, my dreams, my aspirations, and my questions – my many questions. One day, she told me about a show that she had recently seen called, Listen to Your Mother. I wasn’t ready at the time to pursue seeing the show or even thinking of writing for it, but I put a pin in the idea and stuck it on the “parking lot board” of my brain to come back to later.

That was years ago and so much has happened since then. I am now a seasoned blogger, I self-published a book of my own life stories, and I have a new video-podcast. I became a life coach and I am seeking speaking engagements. I am traveling, going to conferences, learning, and networking. I am building a community. I am combining what I know with who I know so I can create a firm foundation. On which, I plan to build a sustainable living. That is me, in a nutshell, as they say.

Flash forward to present time. I volunteered to work in a booth for a fellow blogger at the New Media Expo – NMX 2015 in Las Vegas last week. Ciaran Blumenfeld posted a request for help. I was friends with her on Facebook and in a few of the groups she is in, however I had not interacted with her before. She has a business called Hashtracking, which provides data tracking for hashtags from Instagram and Twitter. It is an invaluable service for bloggers and I was intrigued. I wanted to meet Ciaran and learn more about the analytics and use of hashtags.

I met Ciaran at the Hashtracking booth and started talking, getting to know each other a bit. She told me about the upcoming live performance in Orange County. Listen to Your Mother. (I knew of it, of course. I had a pin in it!) I love how the Universe works.

I will be at the show this Sunday. I am meeting my dear friend Carolyn West there. I can’t wait to hear the stories. I am in a good place now to open up and listen. Now, if I can just get my mother’s voice to quiet down a bit, and if I can stop talking for a bit, I can hear the wisdom and wit of other women and perhaps, their mothers!

If you would like to attend this Sunday’s show, I can give away two tickets. If you want them, just leave a comment and let me know.

What does your mother say when you hear her voice?

Do you listen to your mother?

*I probably don’t need to put a disclosure on this post, but to be consistent and proactive – here goes nothin’ – I am posting this information all on my own, because I want to share the news of this upcoming event, it is not an ad, I was not paid. I did receive four passes to the performance so that I can give some away and see the show. That’s what bloggers do. These are my thoughts, opinions and words are my own with the exception of the press release in quotes. Images and quotes are used with permission and cited.
