Question: Why should you run in the Midnight Mission’s 5K/10K run on June 22nd?
Answer:  It’s truly a testament to the Midnight Mission’s ongoing dedication to advancing their health and wellness program as it commemorates its 100-year anniversary this year with the goal of rebuilding the lives of SoCal’s homeless population. Oh, yeah, and it will be fun! (For those of you who enjoy running!)
Long ago, in a life far far away from my life as I know it now, believe this or not, I liked to enter 5K runs for charity. Yep! It’s true. I even took my son Julian with me. Well, I pushed him. In the stroller. He was just a baby. That was 18 years ago! I doubt if I could walk that far today, but I would be willing to try for a good cause. This is such a cause…

In the spirit of spring, The Midnight Mission prepares for its annual 5K/10K run at Oak Grove Park (4400 Oak Grove Drive, La Canada-Flintridge) on June 22nd at 8 a.m., as part of its robust health and wellness program. More than 1,000 runners are expected to participate in the event. All ages are welcome; the registration fee starts at $35 for adults/ $20 for kids. Awards and post-race lunch to follow. Click HERE to enter.
As one of SoCal’s largest social service providers, health and wellness is at the helm of the Midnight’s pivotal programming designed to improve the physical and emotional health of its clients. From its revolutionary culinary program for its residences to its competitive basketball program, the Midnight brings together primary healthcare with fitness classes and exercise opportunities. Underscoring the Midnight’s health and wellness initiatives, there has been a longstanding Running Club led by L.A. County Superior Court Judge Craig Mitchell, whose had a longstanding involvement with the Midnight Mission, starting a running club in 2012 and since then, mentoring Midnight’s residents on their road to recovery.
This year, 9 Midnight Runners completed the LA Marathon and will lead this year’s 5K/10K run. Proceeds from last year’s event went towards sending three of the Midnight’s Runners to Ghana where they participated in the Accra International Marathon. All proceeds from this year’s event will go towards supporting the Midnight’s programming for SoCal’s neediest.

Step into the light.
