When I was invited to attend a special screening of the film “Titans of the Ice Age,” and interview La Brea Tar Pits’ chief paleontologist, Dr. Luis Chiappe and get a selfie with a giant prehistoric sloth – how could I resist! I love L.A.! Read my review of the new film from the Ice Age franchise opening in the U.S. in 3D on July 22nd, 2016. See the film, I liked it!
ICE AGE: COLLISION COURSE
Scrat’s epic pursuit of the elusive acorn catapults him into the universe where he accidentally sets off a series of cosmic events that transform and threaten the Ice Age World. To save themselves, Sid, Manny, Diego, and the rest of the herd must leave their home and embark on a quest full of comedy and adventure, traveling to exotic new lands and encountering a host of colorful new characters.
I had fun on my summertime “play day” in the city. My first stop was the La Brea Tar Pits, in Los Angeles, CA. The museum is currently running a film about the Ice Age in 3 D – which ties in perfectly with the Movie, Ice Age: Collision Course coming out this summer!
After seeing the film at the museum, paleontologist Dr. Luis Chiappe spoke to the audience concerning the historical truths about the Ice Age compared to what is portrayed in the animated movies. The kids in attendance asked great questions and I thought that the producers were being socially responsible to give us the opportunity to learn the realistic value of what is in the movie.
The tour of the museum included a presentation about the tar pits that existed there in Los Angeles millions of years ago. Now surrounded by an “asphalt jungle” that left behind millions of fossilized bones and artifacts, the area continues to be excavated by archaeologists.
These paleontologists work in a glass windowed area inside the museum, sorting and documenting tiny bones and fossils. They are so gracious to work in front of a stream of onlookers.
Before leaving the La Brea Tar Pits museum, I spied Josh Peck, who plays Eddie in Ice Age, filming a promo for the movie. He is so cute! I talked to him and told him to add me on Snapchat. (Josh – if you see this – I am still waiting! snapchat.com/add/mizbizevents )
Josh Peck was the first one in the room at the press junket that I attended the following day. I could tell he loves playing voice parts, that bright smile and lighthearted energy said it all. I just read that Josh landed a role as the lead character in the upcoming animated film, “Gnome Alone” with singer-songwriter, Becky G.
Max Greenfield is new to the Ice Age franchise portraying a new character in the series. Roger plays an integral part in the film and was probably my favorite. Max is a nice guy and he said he really loved the experience of being the voice of Roger.
I have met Queen Latifah a few times before this press junket and I always enjoy seeing her! She is talented, beautiful and a total sweetheart! I was in the audience for her talk show and had a blast! She really seems to love the character she plays in Ice Age and identifies with being a mom like Ellie.
Meeting Ray Romano was awesome! Ray is great as the voice of Manny, the dad in Ice Age. He is funny and quite personable. He spoke to everyone in the room at the press junket as though he knew us and was very genuine. I enjoyed ribbing him a bit about what is yet to come in future Ice Age films and if he would enjoy being “Grandpa Manny!”
Meeting John Leguizamo and Wanda Sykes was a hoot! They are both funny separately – and together they were hilarious! As Granny and Sid in Ice Age Collision Course – they steal the show with their dynamic wit!
I just had to get a selfie with John Leguizamo since my friend, Suzette Valle sent me her selfie with him when she found out I would be going to the press junket. I actually showed him the picture of her above and he remembered her. He said, “Oh yes – I have her book!”
Ice Age is one of the 101 Movies to See Before You Grow Up, the book by Suzette Valle. An expert in film and entertainment, Suzette is a big proponent of family films. If Ice Age made the cut in her book – you know it’s a good one!
See Ice Age: Collision Course when if first comes out – the 3D animation is fantastic – and I don’t usually care for 3D. Sometimes the 3rd or 4th film in a franchise doesn’t have the best quality animation – but this is an exception. This film is top quality with a wonderful story and message.

I love living in L.A. and having the opportunity to see movie screenings now and then. I was thrilled to attend a special event hosted by the Latina Lifestyle Bloggers Collective courtesy of 20th Century Fox and 42West for the #LLBLOG Holiday Party and see a special preview of “Joy” the movie on December 12th. I am grateful for my blogging community and the wonderful friendships I have made with them. I was treated to a lovely brunch at Tanzy, received gifts from Myrka Dellanos, and saw the film at iPic Theater in Westwood. Writing a blog post wasn’t a requirement, and all opinions are my own. See my Disclosure for more details on why I share stories like this one.
One of the highlights of the event was meeting Myrka Dellanos. She was such a doll. Myrka had previewed the movie, Joy, and spoke about how it affected her and inspired her. She gifted each guest with Rejuvenation Serum from her beauty product line, My Amor.
Myrka could relate to the story of Joy Mangano, the main character in the movie, JOY, that is loosely based on her life story. Dedication and determination are themes of the film, and were the source of inspiration for Myrka when developing her product line.
JOY, the comedy-drama starring Jennifer Lawrence who plays Joy Mangano, a single mother who builds a business empire after creating the Miracle Mop is playing in theaters now.
What I enjoyed most about this film, like other David O. Russell films like Silver Linings Playbook, is that it tells the story of a real family with all of it’s quirks and flaws. I love stories about real families that have emotional and psychological issues that don’t always get along, but always love and support each other. That type of story makes my heart smile.
