I Hope My One Word Intention for 2018 Inspires You #ACTION2018

Posted on January 12th, 2018 by & filed under ACTION 2018, Be Inspired, BubblrMedia, Everything Miz Meliz, I Love My LIfe, Intentional

I am going on a new adventure! Wanna come?

My intention is to thrive in every area of my life, just like last year, and all along my life’s journey.  I have always hoped to inspire you to thrive as well. This year is a little different. This year I am taking action. This year we move! Are you ready? I am! Let’s go!

It’s not a challenge, or a motivational plan. My intention for 2018 is to turn it on. To activate all the plans. To make things happen. I have been looking forward to this year for a long time. My focus has been on development and growth for the past decade and now I am ready to rock what I know and do the things I have been dreaming about.

My goal is to help people to realize their full potential and make their dreams come true by taking action.  #ACTION2018

I’ll use all the inspiration and motivation that got me this far to activate real change and acquire my core desires. If you are ready to do this too, awesome! If you aren’t quite there yet, I totally understand and I can guide you and support you at any point on your journey. We are all on our own path.

We will use the themes from the Daily Affirmations inspired by A Year in Bloom to keep us centered, energized, and filled with positivity and hope. These words, the card deck, the book, journal, and concept, all came from the intentions and challenges from 2017 and I am blessed and amazed at how much they are a part of everything I do. Thanks to the encouragement and support (and countless hours of help) from my best friend, Cindy Harrison, we will always have them to help us.

Cindy and I will be posting and sharing a theme for each week that we will use on our shows and incorporate in our classes, and on our websites, to unify and guide our groups and each other throughout the year. This past year we found this practice to be a wonderful way to grow our businesses as well as deepen personal relationships. We improved our self-care and brightened our outlook on life. We both feel strongly that we have all the tools we need to succeed and reach our dreams. The best part is, we want to help you do this, too!

I will keep striving to be my very best, healthiest, and happiest every day. But, more than that – – I will take action and make my dreams come true. I will take action and deliver my promises. I will take action and fulfill my destiny. I will execute the plans. I will take the initiative. I will make the first move. I am calling the shots. This is it. It’s time to activate and set the plan in motion. Let’s go! 2018 is my year of action!

I am wearing my Word for the Year on my #MyIntent MyIntent.org Bracelet as a Daily Reminder #Action2018

#ACTION2018

Be a part of it.

My goal is to help people to realize their full potential and make their dreams come true by taking action.  #ACTION2018

This year, let’s go on an adventure that takes us to the ends of the earth! There is nothing stopping us! Come with Me on My Hawaiian Island Dream @auroraeaqua @BubblrMedia #sponsored

Posted on September 3rd, 2017 by & filed under BubblrMedia, Everything Miz Meliz, Intentional, Mindfulness Guidance and Coaching, Product Reviews, sponsored

Meditation to me is taking some time to visit my “happy place.” I learned years ago about mindfulness and visualization as a way to manage pain and stress. This practice has stayed with me my whole life and is now a part of who I am. Combining aromatherapy with visualization is another favorite way to relax. Lately I have enjoyed using Aurorae Aromatherapy Spritz.  (I was provided with a full size bottle of Aurorae’s NEW Hawaiian Island – Coconut Pineapple – Aromatherapy Spritz to review from Aurorae Aqua LLC. I was under no obligation to write about it on my blog. All opinions are my own. Photos and details are used with permission. See my disclosure for more information on why I post articles like this on MizMeliz.com.)

Sometimes I light a scented candle, sometimes I use essential oils. Now, I have a new spray from Aurorae, the same company who makes my favorite yoga mat. It’s made with natural products and can be used to freshen my yoga mat, spray in the air, and it is even safe to use as a body spray. I love to spritz with it when I get home from a long day at work and driving in traffic. Today, I am going to use the description of this body spray as my inspiration for a guided meditation. You can read it, listen to the audio, or watch the video. Just make sure you are in a relaxed setting and not driving or someplace where you need to be alert. Sit back and close your eyes. Take some slow deep breaths. Let a smile fall across your face as you bring yourself to a happy and secure moment in time. Think of an exotic waterfront location. Bali, Hawaii, Fiji…the soft scent of coconut and pineapple wafts in the air.
The sun may be rising – high in the sky – setting, or perhaps a storm is rolling in. On every continent, natural wonders and essences of good feeling are abound if we open ourselves to recognize them. The sights, sounds, and scents of nature can draw us gently back – to our center; to the core of who we are meant to be; to our most fundamental, authentic, and best selves. Aurorae Spritz, and aromatherapy spray that will uplift and inspire you…

Aurorae’s NEW Hawaiian Island Coconut Pineapple – Aromatherapy Spritz !
Aurorae Aqua, a division of Aurorae, recently introduced their line of aromatherapy sprays made with natural witch hazel, essential oils and/or fragrance oils. The sprays are intended to evoke feelings of restful days at exotic waterfront locations. The first scent, Aurorae Hawaiian Island Afternoon,  emits a light coconut pineapple scent. It is available in a decorative 8oz bottle for $19.99
This item’s unique formulation provides the user with a light  island smell and feel, without oily residue on skin or clothing.  It can be used it at home, at the gym, or on your way to and from your favorite activity. The Aurorae Hawaiian Island Afternoon Spritz is the perfect size to fit in your bag.

Reflections on This Week’s Theme: Begin #AYearinBloom

Posted on August 31st, 2017 by & filed under A Year in Bloom, BubblrMedia, Everything Miz Meliz, Inspiring Adventures, Intentional, Mindfulness Guidance and Coaching

The first week of September is usually the beginning of the school year and marks a new start for me. Every year around this time, I begin planning for the holidays and then the new year. Fall is on the way here in the United States and even though we won’t get a sense of real season change until late October, we consider Labor Day to be the end of Summer.

Nowadays the schools where I live begin in early August, so the one I work at and the one my son attends has been in session almost a month. Yet, everything feels like the beginning. Roman is a senior in high school now and this week he attended an annual event the school hosts called, Senior Sunrise. The students come early to school and gather on the athletic field, eat breakfast together and watch the sun come up. At the end of the year, they have a Senior Sunset which will be the last time they meet as a group. It is a very special way they memorialize their unique bond as a senior class.

This week is my own sunrise in a way. I am at a dawn in my adventures at BubblrMedia. I am launching a new show, “Last Night’s Show with Miz Meliz.” I am going full steam ahead with my plans for which I have been preparing all year. I am excited and I feel ready. I guess I am much more like my son, a senior in high school, than I thought! He has a sense of confidence and readiness at the beginning of this year that I have not recognized in him before. It is an exciting time indeed!

Begin is one of the cards from the Deck of Affirmations Inspired by A Year in Bloom by Melissa Reyes 2017

National Dog Day August 26

Posted on August 26th, 2017 by & filed under Everything Miz Meliz, Intentional

National Dog Day is Aug. 26, a date set aside to celebrate dogs, recognize the number that need to be rescued each year, and acknowledge our canine friends who work to save lives and bring comfort.

In honor of this dog-gone good holiday, Lucky the TurfMutt, a rescue dog himself and the official spokesdog of the Outdoor Power Equipment Institute (OPEI) environmental education program – TurfMutt.com – encourages pet parents to reevaluate their family yard to ensure it’s appropriate for their furry friends.

The information here was provided by Four Leaf PR on Behalf of OPEI and TurfMutt. I was not compensated to post this on my blog. This is not a sponsored advertisement. See my disclosure to find out why I post articles like this on MizMeliz.com.

Fall is a time for planting in advance of the next year’s spring season. Here are TurfMutt’s top five tips for ensuring the family yard is a place everyone can enjoy year-round.

TurfMutt Celebrates National Dog Day with Five Pet-Friendly Tips for the Family Yard
TurfMutt encourages pet parents to use National Dog Day (Aug. 26) to spruce up the family yard for pets:

Consider your dog’s needs
Each dog – senior, puppy, small, big, active breed or not-so-much – has different needs. Is your dog a water hound? Maybe you should include a splash pool or water fountain. Got a digger? A sand pit might work well to keep your dog entertained – and the mess contained. Does your dog love to run the perimeter of your yard? Design your yard with his path in mind. Does she have dog friends next door? Maybe an eye-level hole in the fence would keep her from barking. Jot down everything your dog needs from your family yard, then you map out your landscaping accordingly.

Keep your pet safe & sound
One of the most important pet features in your family yard is a secure fence – whether it’s made of wood, metal, vinyl or concrete. Inspect and fix your fence – or install one – so you can rest easy knowing your dog is safely within the boundary of your yard.

Include turfgrass
Turfgrass is safe – unlike concrete, asphalt or hard ground – and offers your pet a soft, cool spot to lie down, even during the hottest conditions. It also creates a comfortable backyard playground, and provides a place to take care of business – just be sure to clean up regularly! There are many types of turfgrass that can handle “ruff-housing” from dogs and kids alike. Check your climate zone to make sure you’re selecting an appropriate grass species for where you live. (Another bonus benefit is grass is very good at capturing and filtering rainwater.)

Select the right plants
You’ll want to have a balance of grass, flower plants, trees and shrubs in your family yard. Including this mix of species will not only be beautiful, it will also help support biodiversity. Remember, nature starts in your own backyard! Keeping your climate zone in mind, select appropriate landscaping for the areas you’ve identified in your yard. Around walking paths, for instance, you’ll want to include sturdy, yet soft foliage that can stand up to puppy and people traffic without scratching. Use elevated boxes and patio planters for more delicate flowering plants.

Avoid toxic plants
One last word of important advice – there are some plants and shrubs that are poisonous to dogs. You’ll want to avoid these in your outdoor living room entirely. The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) has a list of toxic plants that you should refer to when shopping for your family yard.

A word about challenges…

This is my challenge. I am accepting it now because I believe it will help me with instituting a daily practice of delivering fresh content in my live feed on Facebook. This is something I’ve wanted to do for awhile. I’ve joined other challenges and I have found it to be an effective way for me to develop routines, hone skills, and be better at what I am doing.

There has been some discussion around the interwebs about how these challenges clutter up the feeds and become like junk mail in our already minutiae laden datasphere. I say, stay calm and scroll on! You are in control of what you consume. If you don’t like to see people try to make themselves get better at something, if seeing too much video content is starting to bore you, then it might be time for you to unplug for awhile. Video, especially live video, is on the rise!

I’m speaking at ConnectHer Media’s Women in Business Conference #ConnectHer17 on Using Video to Help Build Your Brand Effectively with Andrea Corson of Video Pop and Aaron M. Sanchez of KMET ABC News Radio on August 5-6, 2017.

If you ask Ruth what she likes to do when she is not working, traveling, or stretching her brain muscles, she will say, “I like to hike, eat, and laugh.”

I would say she likes to express her desire to make the world a better place and that she is deep and inspiring beyond belief. Whenever I am blessed with the opportunity to connect with and listen to her, Ruth carries me with her to a distant peaceful place with her words, caring eyes, and beautiful smile.

I’ve never met anyone so humble and insightful. Well, perhaps I have, but I have never met anyone quite like Ruth and I don’t know how else to describe her. Come with me on a journey, and let’s see what she will tell us on Tinsel Town Live…

zebras-looking-e1470943798692If you ask me about my trip to Africa don’t be surprised if I tell you about the elephants, the hippos, the giraffes, the crocodiles, the zebras, the great kudus, the lioness I saw in the distance and so many cool birds and the spectacular trees.”

I went on a trip to Tanzania with Global Volunteers to help explore a program that has the potential to curb stunting and change the world.

“Happiness and fulfillment are not that straight forward. I am not sure we can make blanket statements – circumstances alone don’t necessary translate to feeling happy and fulfilled.” ~Ruth Curran on her inspirations from Tanzania

We will talk about her mission in life, her feelings about what she calls, “purposeful travel,” her experiences in volunteering, and of course, her passion for brain development.

What’s Hot and What’s Not? by Melissa Reyes

Posted on June 16th, 2016 by & filed under Everything Miz Meliz, I Love My LIfe, Intentional, Life Coaching, Mindfulness Guidance and Coaching

What I think is hot may totally not be to you. Wait. What?

I want to know what you think is hot and what you think is not so hot.

This could mean summer plans, high temperatures, or your opinions about what is going on around you – or within your heart. Tell me in the comments below. I will follow up with you.

This is my state of being right now. I feel pretty good. There are things going on in my life and in my family that concerns me. That’s a nice way of saying I am worried and scared about the health and well being of the people I love. I am otherwise pretty happy. Sometimes it is hard to be happy when you are worried.

Here is a little of what is going on this summer on my website and shows:

This Week on MizMeliz.com (1)

Things I am excited about – – an Update

Besides it being my favorite season – the summer sun is hot and the sky is clear – I am happy about some of the projects I have been working on. I know I am doing a lot and I am always busy. I am currently worried that you might be confused. Especially if you are just discovering me. Who is Miz Meliz? What does she do? If you are thinking that and you have found yourself reading this post, that’s good! I would like to clear that up for you.

I am a mom and a wife, a sister and a cousin. First and foremost. My family is the most important thing to me.

I aim to be a positive influence for my family and friends. I am a life coach who helps people feel happiness.

I vowed at the start of this year to make my focus to connect, create, and sparkle. I chose these three words to guide me through the year.

I am so glad I made this commitment because I have consistently connected with people all around the world and in my own community. I continue to enjoy talking with and learning about all the people that I meet. I love people! I have been so happy expanding and growing my community that I have opened a fire hose of creativity. Influenced and encouraged by artists and entrepreneurs alike, I am pushing forward and making a difference in my life by producing artwork. I hope to truly shine (the sparkle) and lead the way to a joyfulness that spreads to everyone I meet. Through art, compassion, and love, I hope to inspire others to enjoy life and experience true joy and happiness. (I know it sounds fru-fru or very “woo,” but if you know me then you know that I am only marginally fru-fru! I am pretty down to earth for the most part.)

Freedom

Here is what I am doing:

  • I work full time at a middle school in campus ministry. It’s a great job for me!
  • I am completing a self-reflective art challenge – 100 Mandalas – drawing and coloring 100 mandalas and sharing them online.
  • I am making jewelry and other decorative art projects, stencils, stamps, photos, a coloring book, and affirmation card decks with my mandala art. All of my products are available for purchase.
  • I am producing a weekly video called “Tinsel Town” that airs live and is then posted to You Tube.

I interview people that I believe to be inspiring examples of folks who know their purpose and live their passion. It is fun and I am just about to start my third year! Meet the super stars who inspire me on Tinsel Town.

  • I am co-hosting and participating in another weekly video show with Cindy Harrison called “Paint with Heart” #SparkleandInspire.

Cindy teaches me how to create decorative art projects and we post the videos on You Tube. Anyone can participate, learn, and make their own art projects with us. It’s free and it is an awesome way to experience online classes.

  • I am coaching and counseling people who need guidance and want to live a happy life. People say I am pretty good at it.

Combined with all of the things that I am working on listed above – this act of love is the thing that I am most passionate about. I am seriously in love with helping people.

Talk to me. Tell me what is bugging you. What is bumming you out. We can work it out. What’s hot in your life? What’s not so hot? There are clear skies and sunny days ahead. Believe me!

Check out the tabs in the menu on my blog. There are links to the videos, classes, and my schedule for one on one coaching. I am here for you!

The #MandalaGuidebook a Review and Interview of Author Kathryn Costa @100Mandalas by Melissa Reyes

Posted on May 21st, 2016 by & filed under ART, Books, Everything Miz Meliz, Intentional, Mindfulness Guidance and Coaching

May 21, 2016

I want to write a syrupy sweet message of love and admiration for Kathryn Costa, as I know you would enjoy reading that as much as I would enjoy writing it, however as a book reviewer and blogger I am going to go straight to the review of her amazing new book, The Mandala Guidebook.

The Mandala Guidebook: How to Draw, Paint, and Color Expressive Mandala Art, by Kathryn Costa

13246091_10206221941562579_1465888781_nThis book could have made a beautiful coffee table book, or an instructional text book, however the author intuitively designed it to be a companion book. It seems to have been intended to carry in your book bag with your sketch book, adult coloring books, and magazines. At least that was the impression I got when I first opened the envelope and got my hands on the much anticipated guidebook by the influential and inspiring artist, teacher, mentor and, now author, Kathryn Costa. In my book bag it has traveled since that day.

Not your typical “how to draw” book, this colorful display of fine original paintings, designs, and drawings is breathtakingly beautiful and pleasantly enjoyable to peruse, gaze upon, and admire; while doing so one may gain inspiration and motivation to develop their own artistic skills and talents.

Aesthetically pleasant to hold and read, with it’s high quality pages and mesmerizing high definition photographs, The Mandala Guidebook is full of detailed instructions and in-depth information on what an artist would need to know to navigate their own mandala discovery. Deeply personal and thoughtful, Kathryn passionately shares her insights and expertise in The Mandala Guidebook, gently coaching and offering suggestions on ways that you can express yourself while enjoying the process of facilitating any level of participation in this ancient art form.

Clever, fun, delightful, and intensive, The Mandala Guidebook is the best introduction and go to manual for artists and art lovers at any point in their personal experience. Tapping into her background in Graphic Design, and over 15 years working with mandalas, Kathryn Costa brilliantly incorporates graphic design elements and principles gifting the reader with a visual literacy. As she brings them into the conversation, talking about what they see and what they can do, Kathryn demonstrates many methods offering a wide range of styles, techniques and mediums for creating beautiful mandalas.

I had the privilege to interview Kathryn Costa about the launch of The Mandala Guidebook on an online show that I co-host with my friend, Cindy Harrison. Sparkle and Inspire is a weekly live stream demonstration and step by step DIY class where you can watch and participate as I learn and create a decorative art project. Being a mandala artist myself, I love how we incorporate mandalas into every project. Kathryn’s influence shines through in every area of my life that has been touched by mandalas.

In the interview, Kathryn shares how she first came to know about mandalas and how she used them when she taught high school students. She explains how mandalas can create a bonding opportunity and that the idea of creating a circular design can bring people together and create community.

Kathryn describes how she was influenced by Carl Jung, the Swiss psychiatrist who discovered the significance of mandalas through his own inner work, when she decided to challenge herself and create 100 mandalas in 100 days. She explains how that experience was the starting point that has brought her to where she is now.
