What is the life I am choosing? To be happy? Free? Confident? Successful?
I can’t get enough flower and bloom quotes! There are so many and they all apply to my themes for A Year in Bloom.
A Year in Bloom is my philosophy for life – I want to live my life as if I am blooming, facing the sun in full bloom – my best, brightest, healthiest, and happiest.
I am doing a 365 Day Challenge as part of A Year in Bloom. You can see a Word of the Day every single day with a “theme” word and some inspiration in my private Facebook group. It is the only place I am sharing the word every day. I hope to see you there: http://facebook.com/groups/ayearinbloom
If you ask Ruth what she likes to do when she is not working, traveling, or stretching her brain muscles, she will say, “I like to hike, eat, and laugh.”
I would say she likes to express her desire to make the world a better place and that she is deep and inspiring beyond belief. Whenever I am blessed with the opportunity to connect with and listen to her, Ruth carries me with her to a distant peaceful place with her words, caring eyes, and beautiful smile.
I’ve never met anyone so humble and insightful. Well, perhaps I have, but I have never met anyone quite like Ruth and I don’t know how else to describe her. Come with me on a journey, and let’s see what she will tell us on Tinsel Town Live…
“If you ask me about my trip to Africa don’t be surprised if I tell you about the elephants, the hippos, the giraffes, the crocodiles, the zebras, the great kudus, the lioness I saw in the distance and so many cool birds and the spectacular trees.”
I went on a trip to Tanzania with Global Volunteers to help explore a program that has the potential to curb stunting and change the world.
“Happiness and fulfillment are not that straight forward. I am not sure we can make blanket statements – circumstances alone don’t necessary translate to feeling happy and fulfilled.” ~Ruth Curran on her inspirations from Tanzania
We will talk about her mission in life, her feelings about what she calls, “purposeful travel,” her experiences in volunteering, and of course, her passion for brain development.

“I love the way you speak. You’re so calm and clear in everything that you say. You listened to every word I had to say and you were very helpful with my situation. I like how you tied in stories of your own to give me examples and tips that would motivate and inspire me.”
“I really appreciated how easy it was for us to schedule a time to talk – you are so great about being flexible with your time. And being able to have sessions over the phone was such a blessing for a busy mother of two! You are a very good listener but also skilled at not letting me ramble on – you knew just when to be quiet and when to speak up to keep me focused, move us forward, or hone in on a point. You have a very good memory and were able to connect dots from our different conversations. I also truly felt you were sincere – when you told me my work was meaningful and valuable, I believed you and it made me stop devaluing what I did and see my work in a new light. Your sincerity and caring is real and is much appreciated!”
“You are very in tune with such a vast variety of people, from all walks of life. You truly care about your friends, and I always feel good after visiting your group:) Definitely a great listener, and you know how to give advice without ever making someone feel bad; you can address the flaws or issues, but keep it positive.”
“I felt the advice you gave and the tips and tricks to handle the stress of the season to be great insight and helpful. I like how you would listen to others approach or ideas and gave your insight on them. I liked that you were open to anyone and wanting to help.”
“I love your voice, it’s very calming…”
“My experience was pretty good! The coaching met my expectations – I want to continue and I will refer you to others because I see some improvement in how I feel.”

What I think is hot may totally not be to you. Wait. What?
I want to know what you think is hot and what you think is not so hot.
This could mean summer plans, high temperatures, or your opinions about what is going on around you – or within your heart. Tell me in the comments below. I will follow up with you.
This is my state of being right now. I feel pretty good. There are things going on in my life and in my family that concerns me. That’s a nice way of saying I am worried and scared about the health and well being of the people I love. I am otherwise pretty happy. Sometimes it is hard to be happy when you are worried.
Besides it being my favorite season – the summer sun is hot and the sky is clear – I am happy about some of the projects I have been working on. I know I am doing a lot and I am always busy. I am currently worried that you might be confused. Especially if you are just discovering me. Who is Miz Meliz? What does she do? If you are thinking that and you have found yourself reading this post, that’s good! I would like to clear that up for you.
I am a mom and a wife, a sister and a cousin. First and foremost. My family is the most important thing to me.
I aim to be a positive influence for my family and friends. I am a life coach who helps people feel happiness.
I vowed at the start of this year to make my focus to connect, create, and sparkle. I chose these three words to guide me through the year.
I am so glad I made this commitment because I have consistently connected with people all around the world and in my own community. I continue to enjoy talking with and learning about all the people that I meet. I love people! I have been so happy expanding and growing my community that I have opened a fire hose of creativity. Influenced and encouraged by artists and entrepreneurs alike, I am pushing forward and making a difference in my life by producing artwork. I hope to truly shine (the sparkle) and lead the way to a joyfulness that spreads to everyone I meet. Through art, compassion, and love, I hope to inspire others to enjoy life and experience true joy and happiness. (I know it sounds fru-fru or very “woo,” but if you know me then you know that I am only marginally fru-fru! I am pretty down to earth for the most part.)
I interview people that I believe to be inspiring examples of folks who know their purpose and live their passion. It is fun and I am just about to start my third year! Meet the super stars who inspire me on Tinsel Town.
Cindy teaches me how to create decorative art projects and we post the videos on You Tube. Anyone can participate, learn, and make their own art projects with us. It’s free and it is an awesome way to experience online classes.
Combined with all of the things that I am working on listed above – this act of love is the thing that I am most passionate about. I am seriously in love with helping people.
Talk to me. Tell me what is bugging you. What is bumming you out. We can work it out. What’s hot in your life? What’s not so hot? There are clear skies and sunny days ahead. Believe me!
Check out the tabs in the menu on my blog. There are links to the videos, classes, and my schedule for one on one coaching. I am here for you!

I want to write a syrupy sweet message of love and admiration for Kathryn Costa, as I know you would enjoy reading that as much as I would enjoy writing it, however as a book reviewer and blogger I am going to go straight to the review of her amazing new book, The Mandala Guidebook.
This book could have made a beautiful coffee table book, or an instructional text book, however the author intuitively designed it to be a companion book. It seems to have been intended to carry in your book bag with your sketch book, adult coloring books, and magazines. At least that was the impression I got when I first opened the envelope and got my hands on the much anticipated guidebook by the influential and inspiring artist, teacher, mentor and, now author, Kathryn Costa. In my book bag it has traveled since that day.
Not your typical “how to draw” book, this colorful display of fine original paintings, designs, and drawings is breathtakingly beautiful and pleasantly enjoyable to peruse, gaze upon, and admire; while doing so one may gain inspiration and motivation to develop their own artistic skills and talents.
Aesthetically pleasant to hold and read, with it’s high quality pages and mesmerizing high definition photographs, The Mandala Guidebook is full of detailed instructions and in-depth information on what an artist would need to know to navigate their own mandala discovery. Deeply personal and thoughtful, Kathryn passionately shares her insights and expertise in The Mandala Guidebook, gently coaching and offering suggestions on ways that you can express yourself while enjoying the process of facilitating any level of participation in this ancient art form.
Clever, fun, delightful, and intensive, The Mandala Guidebook is the best introduction and go to manual for artists and art lovers at any point in their personal experience. Tapping into her background in Graphic Design, and over 15 years working with mandalas, Kathryn Costa brilliantly incorporates graphic design elements and principles gifting the reader with a visual literacy. As she brings them into the conversation, talking about what they see and what they can do, Kathryn demonstrates many methods offering a wide range of styles, techniques and mediums for creating beautiful mandalas.

I had the privilege to interview Kathryn Costa about the launch of The Mandala Guidebook on an online show that I co-host with my friend, Cindy Harrison. Sparkle and Inspire is a weekly live stream demonstration and step by step DIY class where you can watch and participate as I learn and create a decorative art project. Being a mandala artist myself, I love how we incorporate mandalas into every project. Kathryn’s influence shines through in every area of my life that has been touched by mandalas.
In the interview, Kathryn shares how she first came to know about mandalas and how she used them when she taught high school students. She explains how mandalas can create a bonding opportunity and that the idea of creating a circular design can bring people together and create community.
Kathryn describes how she was influenced by Carl Jung, the Swiss psychiatrist who discovered the significance of mandalas through his own inner work, when she decided to challenge herself and create 100 mandalas in 100 days. She explains how that experience was the starting point that has brought her to where she is now.
View the inspiring discussion and discover how I first “met” Kathryn and learned about the 100 Mandala Challenge as well as how Cindy had the opportunity to meet Kathryn in their home state of New Hampshire in the interview below:
